Children of Light

As I was laying in the bed one night I couldn’t help but notice how bright the moon was shining that evening. The lights reflection seemed to bounce off my pillow right onto my face. It immediately made me think about this scripture- "I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness”(John‬ ‭12‬:‭46‬). The night sky expands for miles and miles covering the earth, but the moon is what sits on high to give light. Just like Jesus is our ultimate light who sits high on the throne. Unto the upright there ariseth light in the darkness: He is gracious, and full of compassion, and righteous (Psalm‬ ‭112‬:‭4‬). Jesus is the light that shines so bright in the midst of your darkness. It’s the peace in the middle of the storm and it’s how the stillness of the night still moves. When you thought there was no other way out, God comes to shine his light on you. When we get into dark moments, we tend to forget all the things that God has already done, whether it was for us or others. With God we know that we will not abide in that darkness simply because He has come as the light to remove us. In natural darkness, it's hard to see but with a flick of light, it can illuminate a room. As well as with Jesus, He can illuminate a heart in spiritual darkness. “For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light” (Ephesians‬ ‭5‬:‭8‬). It’s our decision if we are going to continue to walk in the light. He didn’t give it to us to misuse it. In order to show that we are truly children of light means walking in His fruit. The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance (Galatians‬ ‭5‬:‭22‬-‭23‬). If we can’t display these attributes then how are we any different than those around us? Are we truly displaying the light He has given us? “That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;” (Philippians‬ ‭2‬:‭15‬).‬‬ This world is filled with people & things not of God, but as his children we are a representation. We can either add to it or take away. We are meant to make a difference and we are meant to shine and be that positive light, whether it’s for ourselves or the next person. By displaying your light may spark up the next person's light. You never know the impact that you can leave on a person's life. Letting your light shine is the effects of God using you. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven (Matthew‬ ‭5‬:‭16‬). ‭For example it makes me feel good when I get positive feedback from those I’ve helped at my job or when people feel comfortable to vent to me. I can tell when people’s mood have increased because of something I may have done or said. This alone makes me feel good as a person because I know that I am who I am because of God. Letting my light shine not only benefits me & others, but it makes God so proud. It shows just how purposeful his creations are. He knows who each and everyone of us are as individuals and he transforms us for the better.

Granted I can be shy at times, but I have to remind myself not to dim my own light. God did not create any of us to sit back. We all have unique gifts, talents and abilities that can be used by Him. We can’t let others dim our light either - “And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not”‭‭(John‬ ‭1‬:‭5‬). We can’t allow people to make us walk down a path that is not our destiny. “Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it”(Matthew‬ ‭7‬:‭13‬-‭14‬). The enemy doesn’t want us to walk with the Lord and will do what he can to get us to not walk in our light. “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour”( 1 Peter 5:8). He will even use certain people in your life to try to get you to walk in darkness. “Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience”(Ephesians ‬5‬:‭6‬). And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them” (Ephesians‬ ‭5‬:‭11‬). We have to be careful that we are representing God to the best of our ability, at all times-whether that's in front of friends, family or strangers.

Remember that you are only a child of light when you surrender fully unto God. You can’t expect to shine when your life consist of dull qualities. Never forget who you are- a child of light and whose you are- Jesus, the light in the darkness.Take heed therefore that the light which is in thee be not darkness. If thy whole body therefore be full of light, having no part dark, the whole shall be full of light, as when the bright shining of a candle doth give thee light.” (Luke‬ ‭11‬:‭35‬-‭36‬).

Matthew 6:22-23 The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light. But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!”
