Still

Snow fall is quiet . Sometimes you can hear its soft patter against the window sill and sometimes you can’t. When you step outside, all you see is pure white against a gray sky. Its stillness and calmness almost seems to represent something . You don’t see or hear any animals, you just see God’s beautiful creation in its own time. The stillness around us can make you stop and reflect or it can remind you that God is still there working. There is nothing that can be done in your control. God’s hands is in everything. You see how snow and ice can disrupt our way of life- school is cancelled or delayed, appointments are cancelled, work may be continued from home and even our bodies and mood can react to the change. Even in the midst of all that, there is still peace. Though things may have stopped for a short period time, we wait with patience for change. Just like we need to wait for the snow and ice to melt to carry on with our regular schedules, we wait for God to bring that change to our life. We don’t interrupt the stillness or wait He places us in. We patiently adapt to our circumstances. We learn to be content wherever we are at that moment. This moment could be preparing you for what comes next. Sometimes stillness is needed. Sometimes we need to take a step back from the thoughts and plans that consume us. We don’t even realize how busy or fast we are operating until we are forced not too anymore. However as humans, we then get “bored” of the stillness/quiet, distracted and inpatient because there is nothing happening. We have to keep focusing on the goal ahead. Everything that happens is all apart of the process. What’s meant to be will happen. If God promised it, then it will come. We can’t let the enemy break that mindset no matter how still God has us become. God could be testing your faith in that moment. Are you going to keep relying on Him or are you going to find a temporary fix to fill the void of the wait? We can’t get caught up in those moments either. In those still moments, position yourself in Gods will. It can be hard but remember “I can do all things through Christ that strengths me” (Philippians 4:13) and “There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.”
1 Corinthians 10:13 - remember our purpose is to please God, not flesh.
Also, beware of the idolization of wanting more. Focus on where God has you right now and the work that is needed to be done right there. Yes, you should always strive for greater in life but remember God also wants that for you as well. He even intercedes for you on your behalf! When we idolize, we often try to place things in our control because we want it so bad. However, we have to want God more! We can’t be selfish and only think of ourselves. We need to desire the things that God wants. We can’t let our wants and needs over ride what He wants for us. He uses us and circumstances to help the next soul and we have to remember to not get in the way of that.
So in those still moments, look at your heart posture. What have you allowed yourself to become during that time? When life had to slow down, what did you consume your time with? We can be honest- maybe we didn’t steward well or enough. Maybe we focused on our cravings/desires more or just maybe we were exactly where we needed to be, doing what God wanted? Those are questions that I even ask myself. At the end of the day, we are not perfect people. We can’t stress ourself out trying to do “perfect works”. Righteousness is not obtained through works only, it requires faith. You can be the nicest person in the world and do all these great deeds but without faith you cannot please God. It’s a belief and heart posture that we have to stand on daily. When we increase those areas that’s when restoration happens. God will place you right where you need to be. God is a helper and He can see when you try.
So just like when all the snow and ice melt, you see the sun shinning brightly, blue skies, squirrels running and hear the birds chirping. God creates even more beautiful life- He places everything in the way that it should. The stillness might have brought a delay but it didn’t stop Gods plan. This alone should make you appreciate and evaluate how you show up for God because He always shows up for you.
“Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)”
Hebrews 10:23
“Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.”
1 Thessalonians 5:24
“Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.”
Psalm 46:10
