Sustain

When I look back over my life and think about all the times that God has sustained me in every area of my life, it amazes me. It took a moment of stillness and quiet to realize all the different ways of God has been there for me– even in the moments when I wasn’t truly thinking about it.
God has had me read scriptures about situations before they even happened to me. Then when the situation happen later on that day, I’m able to think back and realize, “Oh, it makes sense why you had me read that scripture this morning.” For example I could be reading a scripture about opposition thinking, “Well I haven’t had anybody come against me lately or everybody in my life has been been pretty good to me lately,” and then the minute I get to work I may run into something or somebody that may test my patience. Since I was led to those scriptures that morning, now I have the equipment and tools I need to battle that opposition.
Another example – I am currently in a waiting season and throughout this season there have been times where God has placed songs that I have not heard in years in my mind on my heart. When I go back and listen to the song – every single lyric pertains to what I’m going through. A lot of song lyrics are scriptures in the Bible so then this leads me to a scripture that encourages me even more.
Another example – I have a study Bible, and in this study Bible, there are breakdowns of scriptures. It may show me a scripture and then it will add another scripture that is relatable to the first one. I have found that the other scriptures can pertain to even more of my situation than the original scriptures. Therefore, it is increasing my knowledge of who God is and what He can do for me through the word.
However, this comes with having a relationship with God. When you are not connected with Him, it’s gonna be hard for you to ever feel His full sustainability. You will get in situations when it just feels like God isn’t there for you, but in relationship with Him, He will open your eyes to His all knowing power and being. Without a relationship with God, it’s gonna be hard for you to believe scriptures like, “Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee”(Deuteronomy 31:6).“Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness(Isaiah 41:10). It will be hard not to compare yourself to colleagues who may seem as if they achieving or accomplishing more than you. However, when you are connected to the Savior, knowing that, “Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world”(1 John 4:4), will sustain you! You will remember that everything is according to His timing. You will also have His Holy Spirit within you that provides comfort and strength in your heart. “But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you”(John 14:26).
Overall God can and will sustain you in the smallest ways possible. All it takes is for you to look around and notice how He’s doing that. Whether it’s through song, scripture, people, nature- God will show up for you. That right there is Him delivering you. It may not be the exact answered prayer that you are looking for, but it is God sustaining you. This is what is what will hold you together until that change comes. The sustainment is like the filler. God will pour into you until your cup overflows. He will give you exactly what you need to strengthen you so that you can make it through.
Psalm 55:2 Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: He shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.”
Ephesians 1:18-19 “the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power,”
