Power

Do you know that you have more power than you probably think you do? We serve an all powerful God who invests that same power in us. I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you (Luke 10:19). This should cause us to walk in every room with confidence and a head held high because if God is for us, who can be against us? (Romans 8:31).

The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit (Proverbs 18:21). Jesus replied, “Truly I tell you, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can SAY to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea’ and it will be done (Matthew 21:21). Faith and power go hand in hand. You need the faith to believe that you have the power within you. Faith helps you to be able to command life in your situation! We need it to fight the enemy and all he tries to bring upon us. The enemy doesn’t want you to be able to speak against what you’re going through, but faith and power will break him.

For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline (2 Timothy 1:7). If we succumb to fear all the time, how will God’s power be released within us? Fear causes us to hold ourselves back. If we can push the power in us to knock the fear out, the more opportunities will come for us. Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we can ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us (Ephesians 3:20).

I can do all things through Christ, because he gives me strength (Philippians 4:13). This scripture is one example of power. It's the belief and confidence that you can get through anything. Another example of power is “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness” (2 Corinthians 12:9). Next time you hit a low moment, remind yourself that power is building up even in the midst of your low-that you are not being torn down but lifted up! God’s power is not like the world’s power. The world’s power may come with abuse, manipulation, strife or even greed. God’s power comes with strength, confidence, love, authority, comfort and so much more-it won’t rob you, but instead it will benefit you.

The bible itself is power. The more knowledge we feed ourselves, the more power we can obtain. Scripture has the power to help in any situation we may go through. For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to divide soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart (Hebrews 4:12).  Whether it's conviction or encouragement, the word can add fuel to the power. If we don’t study what the word says, how are we able to uplift ourselves or even others? It's so much power behind God’s words and so much strength we can gain from it. Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful (Joshua 1:8).

There is so much power in the mundane things that we don’t even think about. Think about the sun–and how it shines so bright on me, you and the next person, yet we all could be miles apart from each other. Even how the clouds stretch in its many forms-its all so simple but all made by His power.

And his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms (Ephesians 1:19-20). It's amazing that this is the same power that He places in us! So the question is, why waste it?

Next time you may feel “powerless” remember who you are and whose you are- Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid, do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go (Joshua 1:9). You are created in His image– so stand with confidence.

Finally, be strong in the Lord and his great power (Ephesians 6:10).
